The manufacturer itself has warned its customers that the ransomware can penetrate outdated firmware without any major problems. Furthermore, the manufacturer advises you to take the following steps to avoid being affected.
Ransomware is malicious code that reaches the device through open gaps. Open gaps are then attacked directly either by brute force, i.e. constant hammering, or by other methods. As soon as the malicious code is on the NAS, it starts to encrypt all data and leaves behind a “!!!READ_ME.txt” file containing the attacker’s demands. The demands are usually a little difficult for the normal user to carry out, as you have to make a transfer with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to obtain the decryption key for the encrypted data.
