Windows Quick Start was first introduced in Windows 8, it should help to reduce the boot time for PCs running on a slow hard disk compared to a fast SSD. When you switch off the computer, the PC actually remains in a “sleep” mode in which the PC is not switched off. And the next time the PC switches on, you will be greeted quickly on your PC. Now, this all sounds like good news, but this actually causes a lot of compatibility issues with accessories, for example, your audio device won’t work, and you may see that your PC has been running for over a week.
Is there a solution?
Yes, and there is a temporary or permanent solution.
Temporary
When you switch off the PC, you can press and hold the L-Shift key, which switches the PC off completely, or you can press Restart and let it restart.
Permanent
- Click on the Windows logo, or click on the Windows button on your keyboard
- Search for and open the control panel
- Click on the category at the top right and then on small symbols
- When you see the small icons, look for “Energy options”
- On the left-hand side, click on “Select what should happen when power switches are pressed”
- Click on the link “Some settings are currently not available”
- Finally, deactivate “Activate quick start (recommended)” and save the changes
Now your PC should run faster after booting and have fewer compatibility problems with accessories.
