A huge security vulnerability has been discovered in server software that is widely used worldwide. In extreme cases, this could result in a complete system takeover. Who is affected and how you can protect yourself against it is still an open question.
The vulnerability is in the program code of the Java programming language. This programming language is used by a number of PC workstations, notebooks, servers or peripheral devices (switch, router, WLAN etc.). Log4j is part of the Java library and is mainly used to log various operating events in order to record them in a logbook.
The danger exists if Log4j is used by a program to log the character string controlled by the attacker. The character string can be simple text such as “Today is Monday”, but can also be a command such as contacting a server.
At the moment we cannot say which services/programs are or will be affected. We will inform you if YOUR services are affected. We generally recommend that you install the latest updates.
Our team is currently clarifying the situation and will keep you up to date. Should you encounter a problem, please inform us immediately.
